Maternal age Factors

Older Mother :

Nowadays, world is seeing a number of births to women over 35, because more women are deciding to delay their childbearing. There are risks associated with older maternal age, while giving birth at an advanced age has its benefits. Mothers are generally more emotionally mature and prepared for the life changes that motherhood brings.

Advanced maternal age can increase the risks for down syndrome. There is also an increased possibility of genetic defects because of the aging of the ovaries. There is an increased risk of placental problems and bleeding, as a result these women are more likely to deliver by cesarean.

Women who are over 35 are more likely to miscarry and twice as likely to develop diabetes during pregnancy. The incidence of twins can be more with the age group of 35 to 39.

We can have a healthy baby by a good parental care. During pregnancy, there should not be any smoking, drinking, and drugs.
