Kitchen Medicine

Basil (Ocimum basilicum)

A well known kitchen herb used for making pesto and flavoring tomato dishes.
Medicinally it can be used to treat wind and poor digestion as well as bladder and kidney complaints.
It is also useful for stomach cramps and gallbladder problems.
An infusion of the seeds (infuse a table spoonful of seeds with a 1/4 liter of boiled but cooled down water) is a cooling beverage for feverish conditions and for kidney and urinary problems.
Externally it can be used as a wound wash and as a gargle for periodontal problems.
