Children and Healthy Lifestyle

 

You can help create a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle for your child by:
  • ensuring they eat five portions of fruit and vegetables every day (fruit juice counts as one portion of their five-a-day fruit and veg)
  • providing water or skimmed or semi-skimmed milk as alternatives to fizzy drinks (varieties without added sugar are best)
  • avoiding ready-prepared meals, which contain hidden fats, sugar and salt
  • grilling, boiling or roasting food instead of frying
  • limiting junk food such as crisps, sweets and burgers to occasional treats, and providing healthy snacks they like instead
  • encouraging your child to find an exercise they enjoy, like a team sport, dance class or swimming
  • reducing the amount of time they spend in front of the television, computer or video games by introducing more active pastimes
  • getting them in the habit of walking or cycling rather than being driven in the car
